The Reviews of Guangdong Victory Hotel
DCMooney :
The rooms was gorgeous and very spacious, the beds were the best in China, the breakfast buffet was great and served the best eggs we had on our trip, but the swimming pool is horrible. Not suitable for little kids at all. It looked very dirty and was on the roof top, with not much to keep a little one from toppling over. If you don't care about the pool, I recommend this hotel very, very highly.
China_Walker :
Stayed for 2 nights in the West Building standard rooms (newly renovated)
Soft beds. Room size are small but very cosy.
Shamian is a very nice and safe area with police booth around the corners
V Clean toilets but no suction or maybe not working
The sound proof in - between rooms is poor though.. could hear noise if there is any work or door banging !!
The rooms are very good considering the price paid Y430 with one breakfast .. You need to pay Y58 more for another breakfast.
Location is good if you are prepared to walk a bit to Beijing Road..
Very near to Huangsha MTR, Qingping Market and Shang sia jiu lu (10 min walk)
christau :
We were happy with the location. It's a nice and safe area. The room was nice, but maybe a little old looking. There were a few problems with the bathroom, though. The toilet cistern didn't always refill itself, and the bath tub took about an hour to drain.
The staff was very polite and helpful, but their English was very limited.
I spotted a serious hygiene issue, I'm afraid. I used the restroom behind the lobby on one occasion. As I washed my hands, one of the chefs emerged from one of the stalls. He exited the restroom without washing his hands! Shocked, I observed him as he went to resume his duties in the kitchen. This is not unusual, I think. Chinese standards of hygiene are very different from those in the western world.

I lived in Guangdong for a year in 2006 and during that time my partner and I stayed at the Victory on many occasions. I went back to Guangzhou with m y friend in March 2009 and stayed in a Business Room Twin East for USD59 booked through Wotif. As usual, the rooms were clean, comfortable, quiet with soft beds (by Chinese standards). The rate included breakfast and afternoon tea for 1 (the other person paid 50 something RMB for the breakfast buffet). I love Shamien - I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Guangzhou.
