The service was far away from 5-star level. When I asked the congierge where we could go for dinner in a very good expensive restaurant, he had no clue - the 2 restaurants he finally recommended ware absolutely ugly, cheap places (we only had a look from outside, but this was enough to see it was not a place to have a decent dinner) - what a pity you can not ask in a hotel where to eat (we fortunately found out ourselves and had a great food in a chinese restaurant in the centre of Guangzhou).
I can't understand this hotel is still member of the Leading Hotels, it might be that 30 years ago it was at 5-star level, but today it is way off this level. I would rate it as a 3-star hotel. Should you be looking for a luxury hotel, definitely do not consider the White Swan!

Our stay at the White Swan Hotel was very pleasant. We thought the service was very good, including pick up at the airport and our drop off at the train station for our trip to HK. The gals who did this led us straight to the waiting room. As you may recall, the main train was a mess with travelers waiting to go home up north for days in the coldest winter in China for 50 years. Fortunately, our train left from the East train station but the hotel made sure that it's guest went to the right place.
